While Bavarian Moutain Hounds are very much a working hound, to be fit for function they must also have the correct conformation. In many parts of Europe, BMH have to undergo conformational assessment aswell as the working tests and health tests prior to being permitted to be bred from. This is not the case yet in the U.K, however for those interested, Bavarians can still undergo conformational assessment in the form of conformation shows.

In the U.K. and since 2007 Bavarians can be judged in "Any Variety Import" classes, which means these are mixed breed classes with other breeds on the import register. All championship shows and a few open shows hold these classes. Imported breeds cannot go forward and compete for 'Best in Group' or 'Best in Show' and currently cannot compete in any other classes (such as stakes clasess) so no grandure or tope honours can become of showing Bavarians!

From 2013, Import registered breeds can also be exhibitted at Crufts. Up until this time, this was the only championship show that did not include classes for import breeds. With various import breeds colaborating, the Kennel Club finally agreed on the exhibition.

More information on show information can be found on sites such as Higham Press and Fosse Data .
