Our Shillingstone Forest Training Days give members and their hounds the chance to experience the breed’s natural tracking ability in a varied and challenging environment. Training takes place once a month with each session hosting 5–6 dogs, ensuring quality training time and one-to-one guidance.

About Shillingstone

Shillingstone Forest provides a diverse training landscape, combining dense woodland, open rides, and sloping ground. The mixture of cover and open areas makes it an excellent location for working on scent tracking in realistic field conditions, helping hounds and handlers develop confidence across different terrains.
Shillingstone Forest is part of Dorset’s rich woodland heritage. The area has long been used for forestry and countryside pursuits, making it a fitting setting for Bavarian Mountain Hounds to work and train. Its combination of history, natural beauty, and varied ground conditions offers a rewarding environment for both hounds and owners.

During the day, hounds and owners will:

- Take part in laying and preparing a track.
- Practice handling and communication techniques that strengthen the bond between hound and handler.
- Connect with other owners, sharing knowledge and experiences in a supportive setting.

Each session is designed to be both practical and enjoyable, encouraging handlers to better understand their hounds while showcasing the breed’s unique talents.
