Bavarian Mountain Hound Rescue
Bavarian Mountain Hound Rescue is here to help those who are looking to re-home a hound for whatever reason and to assist those who wish to adopt a hound into their lives.
At present we cover England, Scotland and Wales, but unfortunately cannot accept dogs from Northern Ireland, Ireland or Europe
Relinquishment of a Bavarian Mountain Hound
From time to time, peoples circumstances can change for whatever reason.
If you find yourself in the tough position of facing the prospect of having to rehome your hound, we can help you through the process. We will never judge anyone making the decision of rehoming and will do as much as we can to help you.
Please contact the rescue co-ordinator via email at [email protected] and they will contact you as soon as it is possible to discuss the options that are available and the procedures involved.
Adoption
Bavarian Mountain Hound rescue can never tell how many hounds per year or when hounds are likely to come in for rehoming.
If you are interested in rehoming a hound, please fill out the pre-adoption application form and email the rescue co-ordinator, who will contact you within a few days of receiving the form for an informal chat. It may be that we have a suitable hound ready for adoption or your details will be taken until such a time a hound becomes available.
All hounds that come through rescue will be neutered (if not already done). While we believe all hounds should be micro-chipped and vaccinated, this will be the responsibility of the adopter when they receive the hound if they wish it to be done.
Very little is normally known about their past life, however we will pass on any information that we have on each individual hound to his/her adopters.
The majority of hounds that pass through rescue come with no registration documents and those that do have KC registration do not have their documents passed on to the adopters for obvious reasons.
We will endeavour to do an assessment on each hound when they come into rescue. We will not however make any guarantees regarding health and temperament once adopted into a new home.
Things to consider:
If you are interested in rehoming a hound, take your time and think about everything as this is a big decision that will impact the who household and family.
Everyone in the household should agree to the rehoming of a hound and before adopting, the whole family will need to meet the hound, current dogs included.
Bavarian Mountain Hounds can live up to and beyond 15 years of age. Ask yourself if you can take on a commitment of potentially this duration.
Bavarian Mountain Hounds generally have a high hunting instinct, thus needing plenty of physical and mental stimulation if they are not being placed in a working home. Is this something that you can provide for the hound?
Please fill out the pre-adoption application forms. There are many questions on this form and this is to match the best hound to your home circumstances. Please answer all question honestly and completely.
Once a hound has become available and you have successfully been matched to a hound, we will ask you to fill out an Adoption Form. This form will be sent to you via post or email at this stage of the rehoming process.
Bavarian Mountain Hound Rescue do ask for a donation upon adoption of a hound. This donation will go towards helping other hounds who pass through rescue. Without donations, rescue efforts would not be possible.
A Pre-Adoption Form can be acquired from our Rescue Co Ordinator Claire Russell: [email protected]
