One of the goals of the BMH
Society of GB from the very beginning was to establish tracking tests
as in Europe. We have worked from the trackig test rules from the
continent as a basis and have had to have the rules translated and
proofed to make them workable here in the U.K.
The
purposes of the Tracking Tests are ultimately to preserve and encourage
the natural abilities that for which our hounds came into being. The
Tests will be open to al K.C registered dogs with expectations of HPR’s
and BMH’s being most numerous in tests. We have had other breed owners
in contact wishing to take part in the Tests, Cesky Terriers, Curly
Coated Retrievers and the Bassett Fauve de Bretagne to name a few. The
tests are run as a test not a competition, so any amount of dogs can
pass or fail on the day.
The society currently offers THREE levels of tracking test:
BMHS APTITUDE TEST
The aptitude test is a very basic testing the hounds natural instinct to track. The aptitude test is designed not to overmatch, but give the handlers confidence to go further.
Tracks are:
- 150 metres in length
- Aged 2 - 4 hours
- Include 1 shallow turn.
BMHS SCHWEISSHUND LEVEL 1
The Schweisshund Level 1 test goes a bit further than the aptitude test, but is still fairly basic. This test also incorperates basic obedience and reporting of the carcass aswell as tracking ability.
Tracks:
- 400 metres in length
- Aged 3-5 hours
- include 2 severe turns
- include an additional 200 metre free track
- include reporting at carcass
- basic obedience (loose heel, 10 min stay in one place, change of direction)
Hounds completing this test are graded: Fail, Grade III, Grade II or Grade IBMHS SCHWEISSHUND LEVEL 2The Schweisshund Level 2 test is more advanced than the Level 1 test, designed to challenge the handler and the hound further. Tracks: - 800 metres in length
- Aged 16-24 hours
- include 2 severe turns
- include 2 couches (wound beds)
- include an additional 200 metre free track
- include reporting at carcass
- obedience to include steadiness to shot
Hounds completing this test are graded: Fail, Grade III, Grade II or Grade I
